The data of the report of Sunday the 3rd of April say Pompeii is the second most visited site in Italy (29,540 visitors in the monthly entrance-free day). In addition to the guided tours, many local visitors decided to reach the ancient city of Pompeii for a cultural Sunday.
In order to integrate the sightseeing tours, the cultural offer of the site is constantly changing and updating. To improve the experience of a full immersion in the past, from mid-April a multimedia experience will begin to slowly enter the archaeological site. Projections allow visitors to explore the functions of the buildings of the city, from the Forum to the Amphitheatre. Some fixtures from the small former Antiquarium to the Theatre and the Temple of Isis will tell the story of the city buried by Vesuvius in 79 AD, its inhabitants, the relationship of the Pompeians with nature, food and death. Moreover, one of the pillars of the new offer of Pompeii will be an exhibition of the Egyptian cults. In the middle of April, there will be an exhibition inspired by the land of the Pharaohs: seven monumental statues of granite of the lion-headed goddess Sekhmet and the statue of Pharaoh Thutmose III will be exhibited in the Great Gym: those statues will be out of the Egyptian Museum of Turin for the first time and they are part in the exhibition "Myth and nature". The exhibition is integrated by a video installation. The Egyptian Museum - open in Turin in 1824 - is the oldest museum dedicated to the civilization that developed on the banks of the Nile and has the second largest collection of Egyptian antiquities of the World, as well as the most important outside of Egypt. In its nearly 200 years of history, the Museum has repeatedly transformed and renewed. Inside the excavations it will be traced a path from the Egyptian Temple of Isis. In the Ekklesiasterion, the meeting hall, a video will show the cults of the goddess. Inside the temple visitors will see copies of frescos, statues and ritual objects. The new routes include videos of the gladiatorial games projected on the criptoporticos of the Big and Small theaters. The video animations will be included in the evening itineraries. A second project concerns the former Antiquarium of the excavations: now visitors will find a plastic of Pompeii in scale 1: 500 representing the Roman city as it was before the eruption of 79 AD. Linked to former Antiquarium, there is the Imperial Villa. Here visitors will find a house in Pompeii with the relocation of accurate copies of all furnishings, furniture, household objects, statues, decorations, which were in a Roman house of the first century AD. All these events are related to the Great Pompeii Project, which is an action of the Italian Government to increase the effectiveness of the interventions to protect the archaeological site of Pompeii through the elaboration of an extraordinary and urgent program of conservation work, prevention, maintenance and restoration.
